Movie Magic: Cycle One - Mock Assignment Scores!

4th – Vid with Monica
Ahhh I got 4th. I was hoping for at least 3rd, but I guess it's pretty good for starting out. I did make a few mistakes.

Genre: 4.5/5
Movie Title: 5/5
Model’s Appearance: 8/10
Creativity: 9.5/10
Quality: 8.5/10
Overall Look: 8.5/10
Total: 44/50
Comments: Wow! This looks awesome, Vid! I loved the mystery feel! I think your model looks sultry and seductive! Be careful when cutting sims out, you took out a good chunk of her neck and chin on accident. Also her one arm was super pixely, smoothing it out would have made it look much better. I loved the construction of your photo with the flashbacks and such. I think making all of that b&w would have made your foreground model stand out much more and would have added a cool effect. I also would have liked to have seen you movie title larger and more prominent. I felt like it was sorta tucked into the corner. Overall, it was a great photo and I can’t wait to see what else you can come up with!

Comments: I like the idea but it sort of seems more of a mystery/drama sort of movie. The title goes with it nicely. I like how you set your poster up, it's different from the others. I don't really like how the picture on the top right corner goes into the main picture. The girl at the side is really big and takes away some of the focus on the main people. I'd prefer if it was all one colour, instead of that section black and white. Also, a bit of the neck and some of the hair are missing on your model. Awesome job, Vid!

In genre I subtracted 1 as I didn't see a variety of actor names. With your models appearance I felt if her body faced the camera more it would have been much more effective, I also felt that she needed a bit darker makeup for the theme she was trying to portray. I subtracted 1 from quality as she seems very blocky; make sure smooth edges is on when taking a picture. With the overall look I thought the top right picture was good at showing it was a musical however that sim at the corner is quite distracting and I don't see the purpose in her being in that picture. I also felt it looked a bit cluttered because of the different pictures involved. Your movie title was fitting, your creativity unmatched, and really awesome mystery theme that you were portraying. Well done!
Overall Score: 132.5/150

I'm kind of pissed at myself. I'm like a total perfectionist when it comes to these things! Aghhhhhh!!!! I did not notice the neck issue or the edges. Well I did somewhat notice the edges, but I had no clue how to fix them. I do now thanks to the suggestions, but I hate that I just left it like that. I also wished I had stopped myself and rethought my idea as being more of musical. Once I looked it over when I finished, it gave me more detective/mystery feel.

I think if I was to redo it, I would of had them in more dance like pose and I would made the background a little simpler. Well I do like the background, but it might of been better if I had put them more in the middle in a different pose. It would brought more focus to them rather than everything else. I also could used a bit more room for the title and such.

Anyway, I'm still proud of my work! One of my favorite entries! I love the look and feel of it. I love idea behind it too. I also can't believe I did that much editing and only had 2 mistakes really.

If you were too lazy to read my other post though, it is based on my one and only favorite musical! Chicago! I also shared that my fuzzy brat of a dog, Roxie was named after the lead character. I was watching that movie right before I got the little fuzzball and thought it was a cool name. :)

Sooo the next assignment is make a poster for a Romantic Comedy. I don't watch romance movies like that. Kind of clueless as to what to do. I also want to do something more simpler, so I have to think about this one.

  1. That's useful feedback - at least they explained why they had deducted marks, as well as making suggestions on how to fix things. I didn't even notice that a bit of the actress' chin was missing until I really zoomed into the picture just now - so now you know the judges have an eye for detail!

I don't really like rom-coms either, but the good thing is that you don't really have to watch any, just find the advertising posters. What about 'Maid in Manhattan' with J-Lo or that sort of thing? You'll need to get a pose where your character looks all dreamy!

  2. Yeah. It still boggles my mind that I didn't see that at first. Oh well. I'll definitely look it over next time and use the suggestions! :)

I'm still struggling with the idea of a romantic comedy. They do all look dreamy tho. That was something I didn't notice. Going google some more posters and hope I get inspire soon. -_- I must say that J-Lo movie poster does look pretty. Hmmm....
