Tears welling up in my eyes. I was supposed to protect her. I suppose to bring her back to her dad in one piece. Now she was unconscious in my arms. All because of this woman.

“What’s your name? My name’s Madison.” the short-haired woman said quietly bending down beside me. “Please let me help you.”

She began rubbing my back and I raised my hand feeling a rush of anger. I stopped short from hitting her. She flinched, but she remained stooped down beside me. Matthew rushed over immediately pointing his knife at me upon seeing this.

“Let him go. Just let him go, please,” I said as my breath caught in my throat.

I was certain this was a dangerous individual that we were dealing with now. We didn’t know who “Audrey” was, but he had set his sights on Madison after uttering her name. He took my gun and grabbed my brother basically kidnapping him. Stormed out of the rest stop with it aimed at his head. The bastard! I was certain he had no plans of sparing me or my brother in the hostage situation we found ourselves in now. I would have to disarm him somehow or worse, kill him.
